"The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class — it is the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity."

— Anna Julia Cooper, A Voice from the South, 1892

Anna Julia Cooper was born into slavery in North Carolina and earned her doctorate from the Sorbonne at 67. An educator and a pioneer of Black feminist thought, she devoted her life to showing that the emancipation of Black women was inseparable from universal freedom.

In 1892, she wrote what many would not dare to say until a century later. This Anna Julia Cooper quote poster puts her words where you will see them every day.

For those who always knew it was bigger than them.
