Anna Julia Cooper, née esclave en Caroline du Nord, docteure de la Sorbonne à 67 ans, a consacré sa vie à démontrer que l'émancipation des femmes noires était indissociable de la liberté universelle. En 1892, elle écrit ce que beaucoup n'oseront dire qu'un siècle plus tard.
